10	July	First 1,000-bomber raid began on Japan as the cities were being reduced to rubbles.
14	July	The US Navy conducted the first naval bombardment of Japanese home islands.
15	July	Italy declared war on Japan.
16	July	The Potsdam conference began.

Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Indian Ocean

Italian submarines were still being used for anti-submarine exercises. During the month, some 154 exercise sorties were carried out off Alexandria, Brindisi, Colombo, and Naples, but mostly at Taranto, Port Everglades (Florida), and Guantanamo (Cuba).
