The German K-Division (a division of K-Verband, the frogmen, and midget submarines under Vice-Admiral Hellmuth Heye) considered sending two midget boats from Pola to Leros. The idea was quickly shelved on 14 March, as the practical range of a C.B. boat was 300 miles, and the distance between the two ports was 800 miles. Even a stop in German-held Crete would not make the operation possible.

On 16 March, sixty-one Liberator bombers raided Monfalcone. They dropped 221 tons of bombs and damaged the submarines BarioLitio, and Sodio, which were under construction.

An air raid over Pola sank C.B.13 on 23 March.

On the evening of the 29th, the midgets C.B.6 (G.M. Gabriele Battistini) and C.B.18 (G.M. Alberto Coletti) sailed from Pola on a special mission, each carrying two agents from the Eulenspiegel detachment. The saboteurs were landed behind enemy lines at Castel di Mezzo (south of Cattolica). This was Operation MÖWE and was one of the last offensive operations of the midgets of the Italian Socialist Republic.

Atlantic

On 3 March, Atropo (T.V. Aredio Galzigna) sailed from Port St. George (Bermuda) for Guantanamo (Cuba), escorted by USS Racine (PF-100). At 0125 hours on 5 March, Racine attacked a submarine contact with ten depth charges, but the results were negative, and the contact was doubtful. The remainder of the trip was without incident, and Atropo rejoined Tito Speri and Da Procida, who had preceded her the week before. Although Guantanamo had already been used by US submarines, a submarine repair facility was only established on 15 March, as it became clear that the war in Europe was winding down. Finding a more suitable location for warships moving to the Pacific through the Panama Canal was more logical.

After a series of exercises in New London (Connecticut), Onice (L.V. Ferdinando Boggetti) moved to Portland (Maine) on 11 March, joining Mameli, who had been engaging in ASW training at Casco Bay since January.

On 17 March, Dandolo (C.C. Leone Monteleoni) sailed from New London and joined the other Italian submarines at Guantanamo.
